There is More to the "S" than Just Santa

Posted by on in Print Solutions

For about a year and a half now, CPC Solutions has embarked on a journey of transformation. We’ve always had a clean facility and have been well organized, but we realized we could do better, and needed to do better. Since then, we’ve adopted one of the lean manufacturing philosophies called 5S. The five Ss stand for:

This effort has everything to do with being a better company in order to produce a better product, and give better service. It is continuous improvement, so it will never be done, but we continue to make progress.

Foldify*, a brand new app, which was released today, is a great way to be inspired. It’s intended to be a fun tool to create individual three dimensional paper figures, and it can also be used to inspire countless other ideas at a commercial level. Our new packaging equipment can help you die cut, fold and glue on a mass scale for your next three dimensional project.2-Foldify-Layout-with-Art-Screen-Shot

Project Manager - Carolyn Johnson

Posted by on in Fun and Culture
Carolyn

Every so often we feature a member from our team because we feel it is important for you to know who is doing the real work.  This week we feature Carolyn Johnson, Project Manager:

  1. Nickname and battle cry:  CJ - "Seriously?"
  2. Year started at CPC Solutions:  2006
  3. First job ever:  Working at a chemical company in the office for a witch who would time everyone's bathroom breaks when I was 15.
  4. Current position:  Project Manager
  5. What he/she likes most about what she/he does:  The ever evolving technology and the chance to work with a lot of interesting people.
  6.  A funny story related to your position or a past position:  One time we made a new hire go find the "cyan dots" without which, we could not print anything. We had him collecting plate punches and kept telling him they had to be perfectly round dots or the color would look awful and it would be his fault.
  7. Favorite hobbies:  Mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking, gardening, reading
  8. Favorite all-time TV show:  Game of Thrones / Sons of Anarchy - it's a tie
  9. A G-rated secret about you that nobody else would know, PG-13 is fine too:  I'm really a softie despite my New York attitude.
  10. Anything else: I've been in the printing industry for longer than I've been alive - about 35 years, and I'm only 21.

Every so often we feature a member from our team because we feel it is important for you to know who is doing the real work.  This week we feature Dan Savoca, Project Manager:

  2. Year started at CPC Solutions: 2002
  3. First job ever:  Busboy at the Grubstake Family Restaurant, Phoenix AZ
  4. Current position:  Project Manager
  5. What he/she likes most about what she/he does:  Attempting the impossible project and pulling it off.
  6. A funny story related to your position or a past position: While working for a printing company in Arizona, a client realized she had given us the wrong print file for her boss who was flying out of town that day. We reprinted (Xeroxed) the job and I drove like mad for 45 minutes to the airport, running red lights to get the job to the client, who was already on the plane. THAT was a crazy day!
  7. Favorite hobbies: Golf. Are there any other hobbies?
  8. Favorite all-time TV show: Dick Van Dyke
  9. A G-rated secret about you that nobody else would know, PG-13 is fine too: I'm an excellent driver.

Project Manager - Amy Tezak

Tezak

Every so often we feature a member from our team because we feel it is important for you to know who is doing the real work.  This week we feature Amy Tezak, Project Manager:

  1. Nickname and battle cry: CPC Flight Commander - people also call me "Tezak"
  2. Year started at CPC Solutions: 2004
  3. First job ever:  I have worked at many places...but this is my first REAL job.
  4. Current position:  Project Manager / SOLUTIONS Band Manager *
  5. What he/she likes most about what she/he does:  Most of the SOLUTIONS' band related activity is centered around me as I am their manager.  Booking gigs, scheduling practice, making sure the band is happy, ironing fringe, finding graphics for their many promotional needs...these are all in my circle of responsibility.  Sure, the CPC Solutions "traditional" work is very enjoyable too...fulfilling the clients' needs, creating friendships and relationships with clients and co-workers...Both of these positions go way beyond anything you would read in books like The Secret or simple luck.
  6. A funny story related to your position or a past position: I once fell in love with a guy on a calendar we printed. But he isn't real.  He is just ink.  Still, I love him.  I think.
  7. Favorite hobbies: I have a plant that I water.  It is a cactus.  It's on my desk and I have not yet killed it.  I have had it for over four weeks.
  8. Favorite all-time TV show: I don't watch TV.  I am too busy listening to my SOLUTIONS CDs
  9. A G-rated secret about you that nobody else would know, PG-13 is fine too: Is there any food group that is better than a bag stuffed with Taco Bell lunch items???
  10. Anything else:  * The SOLUTIONS are "The only commercial offset print oriented rock and roll band in the world that is any good."

He is as Old as Lead

Posted by on in Fun and Culture

Blog-Lead_type_mike

Every so often we feature a member from our team because we feel it is important for you to know who is doing the real work.  While Mike is not quite as old as lead, he was certainly using it at the start of his career, so the image above has fond memories.

In the days of yore, individual letters were assembled in reverse order into words and lines of text with the aid of a composing stick, and the whole assembly was then tightly bound together to make up a page.  Mike entered the profession during the transition to linotype, which was still lead, but processed in a different way.  Allow us to introduce Michael Amos, Plant Manager.

amos_1296698680Nickname and battle cry: Super A - Faster than a sheet of paper; more powerful than a Heidelberg press; able to leap over a skid of paper; fighting for the right to put it on the press tonight!

Year started at CPC Solutions: April 2nd, 1975, for a nickel more an hour and thought life could not get better.

First job:  His first printing job was in 1972 where he learned to be a Chief 15 press operator for the Delta Newspaper, back when running black ink was really cool.

Current position:  Handles all matters of production and makes it happen every single day.

What Mike likes most about what he does:   The fact that printing is constantly changing, which gives him the opportunity to always learn something new.

Favorite hobbies: Fishing, when he makes the time, and glasses of red wine.

Thanks Mike for your expertise and many years of service!
